Guanella Pass is notable in Colorado for being a high mountain pass near Denver, populated by aspen trees and laden with numerous campsites. Accessible from either I-70 to the north or U.S. Highway 285 to the south, the Guanella Pass Scenic byway provides a high-altitude link between the two major highways and midway, access to a trailhead for Mount Bierstadt, one of Colorado’s fifty-four fourteen thousand foot peaks (14ners).

Guanella pass is a paved road but unplowed and closed in the winter. A parking lot on the northern side, near Georgetown, allows access to the trailhead for Mount Bierstadt. The aspen leaves generally change color in late September.
